Totally Techniques - Paper Embellishments

This month we are a small group of demos doing the Totally Techniques blog hop and I hope that it is simply because of end of school year in the northern hemisphere and not because of the technique that was chosen? . . .

So this month we are doing make your own paper embellishments. I am sure that you have loved Shelagh's creation - what an amazing embellishment!
I followed the recommended tutorial but I think if I had had more time on my hands I would have chosen to simply make my own embellishment in another manner. I followed the Scrapbook and Cards tutorial but used tissues instead of toilet paper!
I have used the daisy from the new set Daisy Delight as my central stamp for the embellishment. Its a square card of Night of Navy. I mounted both the front and the inside of the card with squares of Whisper White. The DSP is Floral Boutique which is retiring in four days!
I used tissues to mould my daisies then once they were dry I fussy cut them. I added the Daffodil Delight centres with an aqua painters and ink pad and layered the petals up to add interest. I think next time I would choose a less busy flower or image and this interfered with how quickly the tissue dried and how clearly it embossed on the tissue.
I used the Flourish Thinlits and the new Tranquil Tide card stock - this is such a beautiful rich green and goes perfectly with Night of Navy. I added new Gold Faceted Gems to the centres of the daisies for my bling.
I like the fact that the paper flowers are not perfect, that you can see the folds in the petals and the impression isn't quite even. The embellishments are very soft and sit quite delicately on the card front.

The sentiment is from Happy Happenings. I stamped it in Night of Navy ink.

Finally you can see the depth in the embellishment. I think that the card won't travel well in the post so it's an in person card lol!
I hope the blog hop has been inspirational to you and that you want to make your own embellishments.  Don't leave us just yet. . . check out Barbara's creation I love how she has created an entirely different embellishment - gorgeous!
Until next month - stay crafty!

Fancy Folds - Big Buckle Card

Welcome back to another month with the Fancy Folds Design Team - this month we are featuring Big Buckle Cards. Haven't there been some incredible projects so far? You may have just hopped by from Martha's blog ~ that lady has soooooo much talent.

Here is my card this month:
I am featuring new colours, new stamps, new thinlits and new DSP! I love this time of the year when we retire an annual catalogue and are exploring what we can create with our new tools, stamps and designs.

You all know that I love my square cards and this fold really lends itself to square cards. . . so I stuck with what I know. . .

Beate Johns has been a long time favourite of mine - I love her style and she always amazes me with her creativity. I followed Beate's tutorial on how to make the Big Buckle Card on Splitcoast Stampers and simply adjusted the measurements for a square card. My front panel is 8.5cm from the fold.
I love the depth of tone in the new 2017-19 in-colour, Berry Burst and thought I would feature it first this month. I have used Whisper White as my card base and layered it with Berry Burst and the new ombre paper from the Colour Theory Designer Series Paper Stack. I also mounted the entire card on another square of the Berry Burst card to "frame" the project.

The daisy stamp from the Daisy Delight stamp set is super cute. I heat embossed the flower in white and used emboss resist technique to add a touch of colour (Berry Burst) to the centre of the daisy. I wiped off the excess colour with a wet wipe to pop the white emboss on white card stock. The beauty is that this particular stamp has a matching punch - so I punched out the flowers with the punch, bent up the petals a little to give it some depth and stuck two of the stamped punched images on top of each other. I thought the Silver Faceted Gem was a great centre for the flower. I also scattered some Rhinestones as well to bling it up.
You might see the feature behind the daisy - this was created using the circular detail thinlit from the Eastern Medallion Thinlit Dies (which is available to customers on advance purchase this month!), this set is so versatile and will quickly become a favourite I have not doubt. I snipped the detail cut- out from the centre of the circle. I wanted the daisy to pop but not be overpowered by the shape behind it.

Heat embossing always wows people and I love how the white embossed flowers and leaves from the Wood Words set looks stamped on the ombre DSP from the Colour Theory Designer Series Paper Stack. I have stamped this image twice and masked the second stamp using a post it note so that the stamped image was well within the parameters of the DSP.
I used the Classic Label Punch for the void for the belt and adjusted the "belt" to be narrow enough to slide in and out of the void without getting caught on the thinlit feature behind the daisy. I contemplated shaping the belt end that is tucked in, but decided against it.
The sentiment is from the Daisy Delight set. I love the size and style of the font - this is a great sentiment and I think I will be using it a lot this season.
I hope you have enjoyed the project and feel excited about what is to come. The new catalogue is delicious!

Don't leave us now. My beautiful friend Tanja Kolar is next in the hop and her creation is so cute!

Stay sparkly!
